Dev Anand (still) rocks

Ok, this might be a strange choice but it is a blog about nostalgia after all and what better way to celebrate the Golden Period of Hindi cinema than to write about Dev Anand, the man with the jaunty air, the mischevious smile and the song on his lips? Dev Anand, who was loved by our parents (and probably their parents before them.) Who has made countless wonderful films we can still see today and whose songs are great favourite with all of us, especially on picnics(Jeevan ke safar mein rahi.) And who is still with us, 85 years young, deep in the middle of making his latest film Chargesheet. He may not be a heartthrob to the younger generation and nobody may be going to see his movies, but he has more passion than stars one fourth his age. His book is called Romancing with Life, and rightly so--his philosophy is best embodied by the song, Mein Zindagi ka saath nibhata chala gaya.
I have had the good fortune of meeting Dev Anand a few times. He still remains unstarry and corteous, a gentleman of the old school who picks up his own phone and meets his fans with the same smile with which he romanced his heroines. The signs of age are there of course, but the glimmer of those twinkling eyes has not faded away.
In the coming posts, i will discuss some of his films, especially the classics like Taxi Driver, Baazi, CID, Hum Dono, Nau do Gyarah, Guide, Jewel Thief and Hare Rama Hare Krishna. Each of them deserves to be dissected and analysed and I would welcome suggestions and comments.
Of course there will be more to this blog than one star or film. But the idea is to go back in time, look at some of our gems, especially hidden ones and also some clunkers which kept us amused and entertained. Ciao
